WORDS SURFACING . early April 2006
Adam Overton
.
An Opinion is Power [ or so we practice / preach / believe ].
To have an opinion, to decide, is to manhandle, to control the world,
to cause it to abide by your Law.
To decide is to believe that the world belongs to you,
and that Others [ who now belong to you too ] are foolish and weak.
This gives us comfort, feelings of stability.
The weak and the powerless [ all of us, really ] seize on the opportunity to create order within our world by setting royal decrees of rightness and wrongness, of taste and disgust, crowning our Napoleonic selves, sitting as midget masters [ momentarily ] of our universe.
Forming an opinion requires no prerequisite - other than immobility of the spirit,
and a shuttering [ shuddering? ] of possibilities.
