a paper written for a class with James Tenney on the history and practice of tuning theory.

 

I've slightly revised the version found here, mostly with corrections to grammar and phrasing, but have for the most part kept intact the ideas and arguments I was forming while writing it. At the time, I was unaware of a very interesting book that would have been very helpful and inspiring: Biological Rhythms in Human & Animal Physiology by Gay Gaer Luce, published in 1971 by Dover Books.
