performance isn't only about baton throwing and
leotards, it's about taking the mundane and
emphasizing it position in the world, environment
around us, noticing the usually
ignored routines we perform in our everyday lives.

The class frightened me, so much stress and nervous feelings
built up I would skip out. But as soon as I actually performed
part of those feelings went away.

COC Intro to Digital Media, 15 weeks, Spring 2011

Adam seems remarkably "human" for a teacher. What I mean is that his disposition is similar enough to my own that it feels like more like a familiar acquaintance teaching than a detached stranger. I felt I could relate to him better than most teachers. Not much of an academic accolade, but there it is.

.

Adam is the epitome of an artist. He finds the extraordinary in the ordinary and helps novice students bring out their artistic side. There is no "wrong" in Adam's eyes, making students feel comfortable – especially when they're new.

.

Adam Overton is a great professor who has a genuine love and passion for art in all of its mediums. Great teacher who makes learning fun.

.

Mr. Overton brings an artistic aspect to his teaching that is very refreshing in a technological world. By having an artistic slant on his curriculum he was able to convey a deeper meaning & aspect to the assigned projects.

.

This class was extremely useful and a very good way to be introduced and become familiar with the complex world of graphic design. Even though we touched only briefly at Photoshop, it really made me want to use it more often in my photography. Also, Illustrator is something that caught my eye.

.

Professor Overton makes software like Photoshop less intimidating, the projects he assigns are useful in gaining a general knowledge of graphic design, and he truely cares about his students' success.

.

COC Intro to Digital Media, 15 weeks, Spring 2010

Adam is a very passionate teacher who strives for his students' success. I feel his students, myself included, get a great grasp of the material he teaches. I would recommend his classes to other students and gladly take another class taught by him.

.

a real nice instructor, flexible, understanding - real great teacher.

.

This class helped me break out of my comfort zone and see(?) my project in a different mindset which was a great advantage. I learned 3 new programs I had very little experience with and enjoyed it very much.

.

I really liked when you brought in art for us to look at and how you were able to get me to look at something at a whole new angle and also to be able to appreciate something different for what it is.

.

Definitely useful. I did assignments that I didn't think I would be able to do and be able to consider it graphic design. This is my first graphic design class so it was really useful in my start of design.

COC Web Design, Spring 2008

Hi Adam,

I just wanted thank you and let you know what a fantastic learning
experience this last semester was. I believe you took teaching PhotoShop
to a whole new level.

Your patience, understanding and consideration for each person in the
room has yet to matched by anyone I have ever known. You took as much of
your time as necessary for each student and answered all of our
questions, no matter how trivial they may have been.

Your knowledge of the subject matter and programming and architecture of
the WEB is phenomenal.

Your class is fast paced and every second is full of useful information.

The most unbelievable part for me was learning how to design, create and
publish our own website on the WEB, all before the end of the semester.

Keep up the good work.

Sincere Appreciation

Russ L.

.

Was this class useful?
Yes it was, I did learn a lot about a topic I knew nothing of.
Which aspects of the class worked for you?
Learning on my own I had to figure things out outside of class that helped make it easier.

Logic of Programming, Art Institute North Hollywood, Fall 2010, 11 weeks

Was this class at all "useful" to you...
Yes it's what I expected and a little bit more complicated than I thought. I couldn't really grasp as much as I would of liked due to the time expansion of the course, but overall in a sense it did help me understand the basics of compu/logic programming.

Barbara H.

.

I developed a higher understanding of programming process. I will feel more confident when tackling a project.

.

Yes, everything I learned in this class was new to me. Still trying to understand it more but this class taught me new and useful info, which will help me understand and work with my major.

.

Yes it was very useful. Information and lessons planned were informative.
I recommend Adam as a teacher.

.

Yes I gained a better perspective on understanding the logic behind coding and programming. Especially came in handy with my class on ActionScript.

Intro to Shell Scripting & Operating Systems, Art Institute North Hollywood, Spring 2011, 11 weeks

Adam is an excellent instructor. At no point did I feel like he was moving too fast for the class. He has excellent pulse for how well the students are absorbing the material and adjusts his style to meet their needs.

.

Which aspects of this class worked for you?
All of it - now that I have taken this class I feel an advantage to people in the industry who don't know this skill.

.

When I began this class I expected it to be a piece of cake and I thought I could easily pass without much effort. Man was I wrong. I learned quickly that in order to learn the content one must become involved with the lectures and practice the concepts on a regular basis. The class became very difficult for me in the beginning weeks, but once I learned what I needed to do, it was easy sailing. The instructor Adam Overton is very professional and true to his word. Once the students became more involved you could clearly see the enthusiasm and great vibe from him. And it was apparent he has a love for cats. I would recommend Adam Overton to teach or be involved in any project relating to this material.

.

I would highly recommend Mr. Overton to teach many employers and students. He is a very great instructor that teaches programming.

.

Adam is a very enthusiastic professor who always thoroughly presents to us new materials in a comprehensive level. He makes sure every student is on the right path in grasping the information. His occasional light humor makes the classroom environment very comfortable. Overall, I would highly recommend him.

Adam is a very good instructor, his lectures are informative and always introduce new and exciting ways for using scripting. Classes are never boring and he uses methods that keep students on track with homework & taking the time to understand the concepts. I personally learn well from Adam and recommend other students to take his classes.

Computer Applications, Art Institute North Hollywood, Fall 2010, 5 weeks / 2 classes per week

This class was a Godsend. I would not have been able to complete a story I have been writing for seven years without it.

.

Adam Overton was an excellent teacher! He had great communication with everybody, and always tried to make the "dry" areas fun.

.

This class was helpful for me because it showed me many ways on using Google. I learned how to convert documents as they should be, I became more organized when dealing with work on computers.

.

Yes, it was very informative and helped me understand computers better.
The way you taught the class was very helpful. You made me "get" it.
I would recommend this class to any beginner.

Thank You!!

Intro to 3D Modeling, ITT Tech Sylmar, Spring 2010

Yes I truly recommend you to ITT and other schools. Hope you're still here to help us out in the future. You're a great teacher - I really learned a lot in this class.

- Eddie L.

.

Mr. Overton is a very knowledgeable and helpful teacher. He is always willing to help a student in need. I would recommend any student interested in this subject to take his class.

- Jesus M.

.

Mr. Overton teaches with compassion and strives the importance of detail. His teaching techniques provide a valuable knowledge that will help me in my future career.

- Steven J.

.

I would highly recommend Mr. Overton to anyone. He explained every step in great detail and took pride in not only teaching but our progress as well. He was very helpful in every sense of the word and I'm actually saddened I will not have him as a teacher again.

.

You're a good teacher, I learned a lot, I even was in your class when I had already passed it. And I learned more then what you had already thought. Don't change Adam.

.

Mr. Overton has a burning desire to teach. This is apparent in his methods and his overall demeanor.

Digital Type and Image Manipulation (Photoshop), ITT Tech Sylmar, Spring 2010, 11 weeks

I enjoyed having Adam as a Photoshop teacher. He knows a lot and is willing to help you with whatever you throw at him. He also gives great feedback on your work and wants you to not just be a designer but an artist as well.

- Amanda M.

.

The class I took with Mr. Overton taught me things I never really ever noticed with art. Learned things I never knew about photoshop and gave me different outlooks on my current & future work. Great teacher.

- Johnathan Q.

.

I like how simple it is to follow along with his teaching. His instructions are easy to comprehend, & even if you don't understand the first time he will keep going in depth till we do.

.

If you want a teacher who will give you the tools you need to get the job done, and a teacher who will challenge you to look at things in a different way, but at the same time be very resourceful and helpful then I really recommend taking a class with A. Overton.

- Robert W.

.

Master Overton always teaches valuable techniques and relates everything taught to real life situations one would encounter.

.

Mr. Overton is the best teacher I ever had, he has the best attitude towards the class. I also like the way how he's patient with his class all the time.

.

I'd really recommend Adam for teaching. He relates everything to both real-world and personal experience to explain artwork and how to create them. I learned to look deeper into the artwork I see and to pay attention to the small details of my own work to make a great piece. Lastly, he'll go above and beyond if you have a question, and if he can't answer it, he'll find out for you. I really mean it when I say he was one of the better teachers here at ITT.

- Adam S.

.

I'd recommend Adam to teach any class. I learned a lot from him. He is down to earth and honestly I hate to see him leave.

Columbia College Hollywood, Spring 2007, Experimental Video Workshop

1. What did you find most interesting or beneficial about this course?
  • Everything.
  • Learning different techniques to approach film making
  • Lots of experimental videos were seen, broad history and how it fits in with other art movements.
  • The part about experimental videos.
  • The uniqueness of the material discussed over and used in class
2. What would you change about this course?
  • I'm definitely not computer literate. I had a difficult time with assignments without editing and other computer knowledge as a pre-requisite.
  • More hands on.
  • Nothing.
3. How has this course changed the way you look at, contribute to, or think about any artistic medium?
  • Everything.
  • I appreciate experimental video/art more than I have before.
  • I have a better understanding of experimental film.
  • The course helped exercise a different part of my brain that I haven't used in any other course. It gave me a better sense of how and why I view art in certain ways and what that means for me as an artist.
4. Additional Comments
  • Adam is a great, highly experienced instructor. His knowledge and experience in this art field fueled the class and really helped further my knowledge.
  • Do experimental workshop 2.
  • Interesting subject matter but not as beneficial to me as a director in my opinion. Make sure computer/editing courses a pre-requisite.

Rapid Visualization, ITT Technical Institute, Fall 2007, 11 weeks

note: this was a sketching/drawing class; note that i am not trained in drawing, in fact i stopped drawing when i was probably 8 or 9 because it gave me a headache.

  • really satisfied with this class
  • i liked the different concepts of how to draw...
  • I CAN DRAW AND I LIKE IT
  • HE TEACHED TO SEE EVERYTHING IN A NEW WAY THROUGH DRAWING
  • i don't feel its necessary to be able to draw with my foot or my left hand. this class doesn't need to involve feelings and thought. it should have to deal with rapid visualization. it's not an art class but a class to teach us how to sketch something up real fast for a client or partner for ideas.
