Call for Participation
Deadline: September 10, 2004
Hello everyone
I would like to invite all interested individuals or parties to submit a proposal to participate in 'Nude Media Night', an one-night event that will occur at Calarts at some point in either late September or early October 2004. The call is open to all new and continuing calarts students, alumni, and faculty members. A handful of proposals from other "outsiders" not affiliated with Calarts may also be considered.
If you think you'd be interested in participating, please send me a super brief proposal by September 10th.
Depending on the number of people interested in participating, we'll most likely use either the ROD Recital Hall or the Main Gallery space. In either venue the following will most likely be available: a PA system (possibly Quad), a projector, a white wall or projection screen, vcr, tv, etc. For other needs, check with me - we can probably work it out...
Also, if you don't want to present a work of your own but would be willing to participate in other people's piece, please let me know. (the coalition of the willing...)
And finally, I am also looking for laptop musicians who would like to participate in the inaugural performance that night by the Calarts Nudist Laptop Choir. Nevermore will laptop performances be boring to watch...
By the way - before responding to this email and asking questions, please see the FAQ at the bottom of this letter. Hopefully the biggies are covered there...

To apply, please send me the following information by September 10th:
1. Your name(s) and email(s)
2. What would you like to do? (super brief)
3. Its expected Duration
4. Expected tech requirements
5. Would you be willing to participate in other people's pieces? (not a requirement)

FAQ
Q. Do I have to perform nude?
A. Interpret the title of the show, 'Nude Media Night', however you wish. You're going to (or already went to) art school, so be creative with it, dammit. I'd like to get a lot of different angles on this theme if possible, but if you plan NotToBeNude and your proposal gets declined, you can basically bet that some other person was willing to get nuder than you... Also consider that if you don't want to get nude, maybe someone else might be willing to get nude for you - so bring on the performance texts or video cameras, and quickly notify your slightly less modest girlfriends or boyfriends...
Q. Do I have to be a music student to participate?
A. NO. This is open to all students, alumni or faculty of any discipline. Please interpret the term 'Media' as the plural form of 'Medium', therefore we are looking for anything: performance art, music, sound art, dance, video, film, other, etc... even static media like photography, painting or installation will be considered - i just can't guarantee a space to show this work in unless i get some help from someone in the art school who has the proper connections...
Q. Does my piece have to include technology in any way?
A. NO. Once again, 'Media' is being loosely interpreted in this case.

Alrighty. Go for it folks. Let's kick some ass this year.
Sincerely yours,
