THE ELECTRIC ARTS ALLIANCE OF ATLANTA PRESENTS
Meet the Artist v.1.1: Oliver Smith and Robert Cheatham
AT EYEDRUM, MONDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2002, 8 PM
The Electric Arts Alliance of Atlanta (EAAA) is proud to present the work of Atlanta electric artists Oliver Smith and Robert Cheatham for Meet the Artist v.1.1 on Monday, October 16, 2002 at 8 pm. Oliver Smith will present selected filmworks of his created between 1999 and 2002 which all exclude dialog or narration, instead using sound to shape an emotional response to the images. Robert Cheatham will present an overview of his installation work and will also premier a live performance for saxophones and electronics, in collaboration with Jeff Rackley and Kevin Haller, called 'HARPAZO' (rapture). This is part of an ongoing series of projects, both sonic and installation, dealing with the concepts of the uncanny, the non-human, and the persistence of the religious in post-modern life.
Oliver Smith is an artist from Atlanta who is self-taught in the areas of filmmaking and sound design, and he has an MFA in painting and printmaking. Smith teaches part-time in the GSU art department and is currently exhibiting at the Modern Primitive gallery in Atlanta.
Robert Cheatham has been active on the Atlanta alternative arts scene since 1984. He is one of the founders of Public Domain, Inc, a non-profit devoted to explorations in art, technology, community, and theory. He is also the editor of PERFORATIONS, an online journal devoted to theory, art, and experimental writing. He is also a member of the dynamic art collective known as EYEDRUM. His most recent artistic work has been in installation art and performing with the sonic explorations of KONX. In the eighties he performed extensively in the industrial/noise band TINNITUS, releasing many cassettes on the fort!/da? label. http://www.pd.org/~zeug/rrcvita.html
