Los Angeles, CA, June 17, 2007 - If you've not been to Dangerous Curve to see the great things that have been going on in our "Is It Music?" series, then you've been missing a lot! We like advancing the New Music community's creativity, so we give the musicians free reign to experiment as much as they'd like. That means you'll hear a lot here that you wouldn't elsewhere! You'll hear a lot of cutting-edge music, but without getting cut, because it's all done in a friendly, non-elite environment that no more scarey than playing CDs at home. Don't stay home, though. Join our community for a great experience!
The evening of Thursday, June 28, 2007, starting at 8:00 p.m., we will again present the delightful duo ing http://myspace.com/ingtree, plus Greg Muon http://myspace.com/gregmuon. They all will be doing quiet music.
The evening of Friday, June 29, 2007, starting at 8:00 p.m., we will present Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly http://myspace.com/flighflighflighflighfligh and Tom McNally http://www.myspace.com/tommcnalley.
The afternoon of Sunday, July 1, 2007, starting at 4:00 p.m., we will have three solos: Albert Ortega http://resontropic.com, Nate Scoble http://natescoble.com, and Daren Burns http://www.darenburns.com.
As always, beverages will be served, and most of the times, a great art show will be up.
We're located two miles from Chinatown, at 1020 East Fourth Place, between Molino and Mateo Streets, in the back of the 500 Molino Street Lofts, #102, between the Fourth Street Bridge's (on the LA River side of downtown) two on/off ramps. See our website http://dangerouscurve.org for directions, pictures, and updates.
More about the Musicians
Greg Muon http://myspace.com/gregmuon does what he calls "Melodramatic
Popular Song."
ing http://myspace.com/ingtree, www.ingismaxandjohn.com are Max Markowitz and John Wood. Innocence abounds with these two truly evolved spirits. They raise yours by putting you at the doorstep of the gods. The Golden Years never left these guys, even though they went to Cal Arts. They just ended a stint with their Origins of the Rainbow series at Machine Project http://www.machineproject.com/past.
Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly http://myspace.com/flighflighflighflighfligh is an experimental/post punk/concrete group from Portland, OR composed of Seth Brown (organ, low talking), Ben Kates (alto sax, sarcasm), John Niekrasz (drums, hair), Heather Vergotis (tenor sax, timeliness). They are high-flying birds indeed.
Tom McNally http://www.myspace.com/tommcnalley, http://www.tommcnalley.com is a guitarist recently relocated to Los Angeles. He has been recognized as a major force on the creative music scene, working as both a sideman and a leader. He has performed (and can be seen) with a wide variety of musicians, including Rob Blakeslee, Michael Vlatkovich, Rich Halley, Nels Cline, Bert Turetzky, Mark Dresser, Jeff Kaiser, Alex Cline, Bert Wilson, Adam Diller, Tad Weed, John Stowell, John Gross, Jason Mears, and John Zorn, as well as with his own groups.
Albert Ortega http://resontropic.com is a sound artist and an avid situationist. His primary instrument is prepared space: area to be transformed by sounds, objects, and various mental states.
His ongoing environmental installation/instrument, Village Array, premiered locally in Long Beach at So.Cal.Sonic, and internationally in Northern Belfast at Sonorities 2005, held at the Sonic Arts Research Center, Queens University. He's received the American Composers Forum Subito grant and the Maybeck Studio award. He has an MFA in Composition-New Media/Integrated Media from CalArts. Albert has installed/performed both solo and collectively at various Noise venues, festivals, residences, and indigenous outdoor areas, such as the Los Angeles River, Barnsdall Park, Old L.A. Zoo Park, Al's Bar, SoundWalk, TELIC, The Museum of Jurassic Technology, Villa Aurora, Henry Miller Library, Sonorities Festival 2005 (Belfast), Sonopticon 99 (ActionSpace, LA), Field Effects 4, SCI-Arc, Hollymatter, The Compound, Beyond Baroque, CEAIT Festival 2003, LineSpaceLine, The Smell, Knitting Factory, the Lyman Residence and Southwest Museum. He occasionally performs solo sometimes under var!
ious monikers, currently as SLUJUN and, when the weather is right, as Branches.
Nate Scoble http://natescoble.com has been an active singer-songwriter and guitarist for many years, sometimes working under the pseudonym of "Nils Shields." His principal projects were The Blue Daisies, What Makes Donna Twirl?, The Smash Cousins (later, Future of Hell), Mouthsore (with Russell Masuno AKA Ginger Leigh), and The Deadbeats (who wrote the song "Kill The Hippies"). He wrote "Startron and The Love Ring," an avant-rock opera, and various song cycles: "Songs for Bob Enevoldsen," "Lavendar Lovegiver In The Pansex," "Darkheart," "Gingham Girl," and "Trystram Street." He has co-written art songs and bossa-nova-idiom songs with Weba Garretson, and is a favorite at Dangerous Curve.
Daren Burns http://www.darenburns.com has a BFA in Jazz Studies from CalArts. While a Master student there, he was in the Performer/Composer African-American Improvisers program under Wadada Leo Smith. Even before CalArts, he'd studied with some of the greatest bass players around. It was at CalArts, though, that he realized he really liked improvising, more than following any style designations---that it is the one thing that can cross musical boundaries. Since graduating from CalArts, he has been busy playing with various groups, freelancing, composing, and keeping a steady roster of students.

Dangerous Curve can print your wide-format (up to 44") archival prints for you. We print on canvas, too. We also do museum-quality framing and other art services. Call 213 617 8483 for information on affordable pricing. We also can frame your art: museum-quality and archival.
Kathryn Hargreaves teaches a Live Body class, incorporating Kundalini Yoga and artmaking with body awareness, at Dangerous Curve for all types of artists and non-artists: visual artists, writers, performers, musicians, dancers, lawyers, you name it. The current class is on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m., just after the Arts District neighborhood walk. Call (213) 617-8483 if you need more information.
Take a look at our column, Dangerous Blurb, on http://eyespyla.com, where we write occasionally about art collecting and other things art-related, and sometimes make event recommendations.
Artists, submit your art for art-in-windows installations in Los Angeles County. Dangerous Curve sometimes curates for Phantom Galleries LA http://phantomgalleriesla.com. See the website for submission information. This is an ongoing open call for installation art, sculpture, video or new media, 2D visual art, and even live art/visual art performance.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dangerous Curve is a leading contemporary art space in the Arts District of Los Angeles. It is a privately run venue for live art/visual art performance, experimental art and music, and installations. The gallery supports visionary established and emerging artists of all ages, with live art residencies and one-person shows of high-quality, risky and intelligent work that's ahead of the curve.
We are always looking for submissions of live art and experimental music.
Visit our website at http://dangerouscurve.org. Sign up for email announcements, see photos of past exhibits and events! Support our vital art community by donating to our Events and Openings Fund! Buy some art online, book parties in the space! Rent Dangerous Curve for non-art-show events! Have your wedding, private/corporate party, CD release party, you name it! Call (213) 617-8483.
A huge thank you to our supporters, The Dale and Edna Walsh Foundation, Kate Bartolo of The Kor Group, and others listed on our sponsor page. Because of their and your generous support, Dangerous Curve is able to make a difference by helping emerging artists and educating the community about high-quality art.

Please adopt animals from local animal care facilities, rescue groups, and shelters rather than purchasing them from breeders or pet stores, and have your companion animals spayed or neutered.
Did you know that if everyone in LA who already has a cat adopted just one shelter cat around every 15 years, not one would have to die? Look on http://laanimalservices.com/adoptsearchphotos.htm to choose one of them today!
