More about the Musicians

Guthrie & Streb http://www.guthrieandstreb.com is a Los Angeles based cello and viola duo of cellist April Guthrie and violist Cassia Streb. They launched the duo in October 2005 with a concert series wherein they premiered over 20 new compositions written specifically for the series. They continues to commission new works and also collaborate with other chamber ensembles, such as Vinny Golia Large Ensemble, Javanese Gamelan Kyai Dorodasih. Recently, the duo traveled to Germany to attend and perform as part of the Darmstadt International New Music Festival.

Harry Scorzo http://www.viofonik.com is a working violinist in the Los Angeles area, as well as a composer/arranger, contractor, and producer. His violin solos can be heard in the recordings of Bongo Logic (Rycodisk, Rhythm Safari, and Montuno Records), as well as in many major motion picture soundtracks and television programs and commercials. In his spare time, Harry cooks, makes short films, and creates paper sculpture and collage art.

Chris Garcia http://www.liraproductions.com/Christopher_Garcia.html was born, raised, and still resides in East L.A. He was a member of the award-winning CalArts Percussion Ensemble in 1979. He has performed in a wide variety of musical styles, including jazz, rock, World Music, traditional Mexican music, pre-Hispanic music, percussion ensemble, soundtracks, and cartoon music. He blends playing tabla with state-of-the-art MIDI instruments, in ways challenging for him, and innovative for music history.

Vinny Golia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinny_Golia is a CalArts instructor originally from New York, who's used his visual art as a basis for musical compositions. He plays a ton of reed instruments. In 1982, he founded a huge (37 pieces) ensemble, The Vinny Golia Large Ensemble, as a way of bringing together getting diverse camps of Los Angeles musicians.

Tom McNally http://www.myspace.com/tommcnalley, http://www.tommcnalley.com is a guitarist recently relocated to Los Angeles. He has been recognized as a major force on the creative music scene, working as both a sideman and a leader. He has performed (and can be seen) with a wide variety of musicians, including Rob Blakeslee, Michael Vlatkovich, Rich Halley, Nels Cline, Bert Turetzky, Mark Dresser, Jeff Kaiser, Alex Cline, Bert Wilson, Adam Diller, Tad Weed, John Stowell, John Gross, Jason Mears, and John Zorn, as well as with his own groups.

Michael Vlatkovich http://www.ninewinds.com/Artists/vlatkovich.html is a trombonist, composer, and arranger. E is an emotionally charged performer comfortable in a variety of jazz and world music styles. Vlatkovich has performed extensively in the United States, Canada, and Europe. His improvisionally free music expresses raw power and beauty in a minimally structured format. In addition to leading his own diverse imaginative ensembles, Vlatkovich has performed with a wide array of singers and instrumentalists including Peggy Lee, Brian Setzer, Bryan Adams, Bobby Bradford, Gerry Hemingway, Rob Blakeslee, Rich Halley, among many others. The trombonist has also performed on soundtracks for a variety of television and film projects. Most recently the trombonist has been performing with his own ensembles, and co-leading Transvalue with poet Charles Britt. Vlatkovich is also a regular member with the Vinny Golia Large Ensemble and Rob Blakeslee Quartet.

Bill Roper http://www.laweekly.com/general/features/aural-fixation/11004 studied tuba at the Cleveland Institute of Music, at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon, and independently in New York. He's now back in his hometown of Los Angeles. He's worked on cut-and-paste recordings with trombonist-composer John Rapson. He's worked with trombonist-conceptualist Bruce Fowler. He's done performance art and scored for choreographers. He's done projects with Wadada Leo Smith, Glenn Horiuchi, and Kim Richmond. He's played in big units, such as James Newton's Luckman Jazz Orchestra, The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, and Vinny Golia's Large Ensemble. He has presented his work at LACMA. And he cooks!

Please adopt animals from local animal care facilities, rescue groups, and shelters rather than purchasing them from breeders or pet stores, and have your companion animals spayed or neutered.

Did you know that if everyone in LA who already has a cat adopted just one shelter cat around every 15 years, not one would have to die? Look on http://laanimalservices.com/adoptsearchphotos.htm to choose one of them today!
