Call for Submissions For Performance-Art, Theatre, Dance, Radio-play,
Video-art

For 7 years zeitraum_ex!t has organised an annual festival. They
started with the 9th International Performance Conference in 2000
with the theme "The art of acting". Since 2004 the festival is named
"Wonders of the Prairie".

"Wonders of the Prairie" stands for international, experimental, and
extraordinary art projects which bring together fine and performing
arts.
Amongst others, the following artists and groups participated: Anna
Huber, Stefan Kaegi, Alastair MacLennan, Boris Nieslony, Lindy Annis,
Gob Squad, Jaap Blonk, Théâtre du Radeau, Stan's Café, Yoko Tawada,
FarADayCage, Volker Gerling, Mike Pearson, LaS Company,Tatsumi
Orimoto, Ene-Liis Semper, She She Pop.
The Theme: 400 hours for 400 years of town history
In 2007 the festival will focus on the 400th anniversary of Mannheim:
zeitraum_ex!t will provide one room with fixed illumination and fixed
basic equipment.

This room will be opened 400 hours, from September 12, 7 p.m. through
September 29, 9 a.m. and can be visited all day round.
The artists' equipment will stay in the room and must not be removed
before the end of the festival. This way, the room changes, it grows,
is in constant flow. Every artist is confronted with unpredictable
changes and has in turn the opportunity to make changes himself/
herself (this also applies groups of artists).
In this room, theatre and performance projects will take place and
will be rehearsed. Readings, video projections, and radio plays will
guide through the night. All what is going on is open to the public.
Interviews with artists, the festival organisers, town planners,
stage set designers, and archaeologists accompany the festival and
are another important part of the 400-hour event.

For 400 hours, the room will be a model for the passing of time, for
the perception of time, and for the changes that take place by the
presence and the intervention of men. A space of history and of
stories will come into existence.

Even the organisers cannot predict which artistic processes will take
place and which shape the room will take.
What is going on will only be structured by the sequence of the
artists and speakers selected.

zeitraum_ex!t is seeking artists (performance art, theatre, dance)
who orientate their projects towards the given parameters and who are
willing and flexible enough to work with and to adapt to the
unpredictable changes of the space of the event.
-Basics of the room: unequipped stage room, stage approx. 10 x 6 ms;
the room will contain 2 tables and 8 chairs; the space for the
audience and the stage are fixed.
-Basic conditions illumination: there is a fixed illumination
concept; within the given frame the illumination can however be
determined and controlled.
-Technical Equipment: microphones, monitors, projector, DVD-player,
VHS-player, illumination control, mixing panel, CD player.
- Equipment: all equipment must be left in the room; it may be used
by the following artists, must however not be damaged. If necessary,
the equipment can be shipped back after the festival.
- Technical equipment and tools provided by the artists are for their
own use only and have to be taken back after the festival.
It is possible to carry through projects which last several days;
they might however be interrupted by other projects, which means that
the space might be changed and the project has to be developed in
another way than planned.
It is possible to do short projects of 40 - 90 minutes.
zeitraum_ex!t is seeking artists (radio play, video-art) who want to
deal with the festival theme. Key points are: time, process, history,
place, development, perception of time, live, age. These
presentations too will take place in the same room as the other
projects and are part of what will happen during these 400 hours.
Video-installations are not possible.
Please note that all preparatory work, rehearsals, the furnishing,
etc. is an activity which takes place in the public; everything that
goes on in this room is open to the public.
