DALi’S EGG
Music by Nicholas Chase, Libretto by R'Jeenah Bonney, Sherrie Flick
and Ann Haroun, Visual Design by Steven Brown, and Film by Randall
Wakerlin.
DALi’S EGG is a trans-media performance work that explores the
connection between interactive sound and music, audio/visual
relationships and story telling. A joint production of the Musical
Arts/Sound Laboratory (www.mas-lab.org) and the EGG ENSEMBLE, DALi'S
EGG extends the concepts of interdisciplinary collaboration.
January 2, 2007, as part of the STRANGER THAN FICTION film festival,
THE LAB in San Francisco presented the World Premiere screening of
DALi’S EGG: Chapter 1 (Other People's Things). In an extension of
that event, STRANGER THAN FICTION-HELSINKI offers the first
international screening of the MAS-Lab/Egg Ensemble collaboration.
This eleven minute documentation of the project showcases the film
work of award winning animator Randall Wakerlin, with text performed
by Pacific Northwest author Ann Haroun and visual designer Steven
Brown, accompanied by the musical fantasy of Los Angeles composer/
producer Nicholas Chase.
The Los Angeles Times writes of Chase's rave opera e1>3ktr=A, "...the
wackiest show of the year" and the LA Weekly writes of Haroun and
Chase's collaboration 22 (Taker of the Total Chance), commissioned by
the Long Beach Opera, "...the human brain at its most imaginative."
DALi’S EGG is a continuation and expansion of that collaborative
relationship, drawing in artists from across the United States,
including Flume Press Award winning author of I Call This Flirting,
Sherrie Flick (Pittsburgh, PA), and nationally reputed visual artist
Steven Brown (Detroit, MI). Slated to premiere in 2008, DALi’S EGG
brings visuals, music and text into a unified story-telling
experience, exploring the narrative form through interactive surround-
sound electronics, DJ turntables, improvisational performance, live
musical-narration and animated film.
