BUILDING RIVERS
a corporeal investigation into the foundations of the actor\'s craft
with Bryan Brown

 at BODY|WORKS STUDIO
Hollywood
6577 Santa Monica Blvd.

Saturday, January 6, 2007
Saturday, January 13, 2007
12 - 4pm

LIMIT 8 students
Sliding scale : $100 - $30 / Barter may also be possible

This two day workshop will explore the dichotomy inherent in the actor\'s
craft : the simultaneous need to \"go beyond oneself\" and yet \"not to do
anything\".

The first day of the workshop will focus specifically on the individual work
of embodying the exercises plastiques (movement isolations fused with
imagery) and the corporels exercises (full-body exercises such as the cat,
headstands, rolls, the container). We shall search for precision of form as
well as generating more receptivity in our bodies allowing our impulses to
transform.

Participants are then expected to practice/process the work for a week,
returning the next saturday with the work more personalized.

The second day of the workshop will expand the previous individual work as
well as take it into partner and exercises with the aim of \"transforming the
body movements into a cycle of personal impulses\". This day will culminate
in participants entering the unknown playing space in order to experience
their imaginations, bodies and impulses flowing freer in a deeper, more
connected river.

River work allows actors to be conducted by their personal imagery. This
becomes the foundation for creating scores (a character, a role, markers for
an improvisation, blocking, a full production) which actors then keep alive
by returning always to the source of the river.

BRYAN BROWN has studied physical theater extensively in New York
City, Europe, and Los Angeles. He has trained with Mary Overlie and
other Viewpoints practitioners, the members of Odin Teatret,
Commedia dell\'Arte instructors, Contact Dance originators, as well
as the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He has led, created and
learned with many experimental ensembles.

Bryan\'s work is indebted mainly to his in-depth experiences with
Stephen Wangh and Raina von Waldenburg. For more info on them ---

Bryan is also available for workshops with existing theater
ensembles, companies or acting classes.

BODY|WORKS STUDIO is designed to provide training to the Los Angeles
community of actors and performers based on physical approaches to
the craft.

Our long-term goal is to create a format for a deeper investigation,
a series of ongoing weekly workshops, based on the participants\'
needs and interests, Possibilities include: Advanced Physical
Improvisation, Application of Physical Approaches to Scenes or
Monologues, Plastiques and Corporeal Exercises, BodyVoices, etc. If
you are unable to attend the workshop but wish to participate in the
future workshops, please contact us.
