Subject: Found Film + Feldman

This past spring, feeling lonely and bored in New York, I helped create
an opera company, Opera Cabal. Our grand slam breakout party is being
held at a gallery in Chicago in April (<http://www.zbcenter.org/>).
We'll be there April 5-7 taking up space in a
variety of ways. There will be a play premiere, an opera premiere, new
music performed by Northwestern's Ensemble Dal Niente, an art show
and...here's the important bit...a performance of Morton Feldman's "For
Christian Wolff" (three-ish hours long for flute and piano).

Accompanying this wonderfully long and compulsively static piece of
music is a three-hour-long film that hasn't been
made yet.

We're looking for video clips of any length (preferably not shorter than
10 seconds or so, but as long as you like, not exceeding 3 hours) of you
or anyone or anything you know doing anything interesting or not
interesting so that we can create the non-existent film. In the great
traditions of found objects and found letters, we're having a go at
"found film." We will string together the clips that we receive into
one 3-hour film that will be played with Feldman on the afternoon of
April 7 in the Zhou gallery. Higher-quality footage is great, lower
quality footage will suffice.

Consider anything, and consider that the theme of the festival is
something to the effect of "unlikely pairings", so for example, you as
Christian Wolff reenacting an Aphex Twin video in my parents basement.

You can send clips to: <operacabal at gmail.com>. You can also hand off
tapes to me (preferably mini-dv), or if for some reason you're in
Winnipeg, New York, or Chicago, you can give them to Jon Eliot, Lisa
Marks, or Majel Connery (the other directors). Warning: if you send us
material, it may very well be played in public.

Here's our website in progress with more details about the shindig:

<http://www.operacabal.com/>

If you were considering buying me a Christmas present, please consider
submitting a videotape instead.

Forward this to anyone who might be interested.

~Nick
