[subtle bodies series]: the subtle bodies series

presented by adam overton and friends, wherever and whenever

the subtle bodies series is a sporadic investigation involving artists, performers, choreographers, and sound artists working to facilitate subtle, barely-noticed experiments in sound, movement, action, and energy within public spaces. Ranging from performances and workshops to activities and rumors, these subtle occurrences are lightly announced, barely present, and open to any who might care to notice or participate. The series invites those involved to explore more fully the range of motion to which we're entitled in the various public spaces and governed environments we regularly inhabit, while striving to live in peaceful parallel with the everyday activity of our surroundings.

[subtle bodies series]: Johanna Reed: Interactions (Scent)

Johanna Reed will be available to smell at the Hammer Museum, every Wednesday, March 3 - March 17, from 2-3 pm. In the performance Interactions (Scent), Johanna asks you to observe her through scent and then, immediately afterward, document your observations in writing. How you gather your data and the form your record takes is up to you. (In exchange for your document, you will be given a small booklet to take home.)

a musical minimum festival

a musical minimum festival

  after Dog Star Orchestra 5
  for Taylan Susam

program a festival or event of experimental music and/or performance that consists only of works with indeterminate elements that might permit extremely minimal realizations. then, perform the most minimal realization of each of the works, holding fast to the instructions and minimums presented within each score, and not taking into consideration any additional external specifications, recommendations or preferences of the composer or other interested parties. additionally, feel free to choose works you're interested in, but do not program for variety – in the end, several (or all) of the works may in fact be silent, or barely present, or may nearly (or exactly) resemble one another.

Kadet Kuhne: (Not) Recording the Hammer Saturday February 6, 1-2PM

Kadet Kuhne will be staging a listening exercise which aims to draw the attention of the eyes to the ears of those that notice her. While she slowly traverses the grounds with a shotgun microphone in hand, the illusion of recording inspires an active engagement with the sonic subtleties of the Hammer museum.
