catZen at emclaThis Sunday, December 12th, from 8-9:30pm, Valerie Bertineli & Mike (of Cat-Math RMA, Membrane Lane) will be visiting the experimental meditation center of Los Angeles, care of Jim Skuldt to partake in some catZen meditation.
The primary meditative form for this evening will consist of an hour of zazen (literally "sitting meditation") from the Japanese Soto Zen tradition. Instead of using visualization, mantra, or guided meditation, in zazen the meditator sits facing the wall with eyes partly open, focusing his or her attention on the breath, and returning their attention to the breath whenever it begins to wander. Half-way through the 1-hour session we will briefly perform "kinhin", or walking meditation, which allows us to stretch our legs while continuing our mindfulness meditation as we slowly move around the room.
The zazen we practice this evening will be augmented by the subtle presence of our [unferal] feline friends Vallerie Bertinelli and Mike.
