the experimental meditation center of los angeles presents Andy Ditzler

In a late interview, Andy Warhol said of his films, “They’re better talked about than seen.” Indeed, though Warhol’s films have been influential and remain important, they were unavailable for close to two decades, and to this day can be seen only in 16mm prints.

What about films that cannot be seen? There are films which can be read about, thought about, imagined, discussed – experienced in any way except watched on the screen. There are various types of films unseen: films which were planned but never made, films which have been lost, censored films, films which exist only as conceptual instructions, even films that exist but which we ourselves haven’t gotten around to seeing yet. Such films live in imagination, anticipation, or contemplation rather than memory.

Film curator and musician Andy Ditzler will give a short presentation on Warhol’s cinema, its meditative aspect, and the related topic of films unseen. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss films which they themselves have not seen. What do these films and discussions tell us about the consciousness of cinema?

Attendees are encouraged to bring an example or two of a film they haven’t seen – either an existing film or an imaginary one.

Please hang out afterward for drinks and discussion. BYOBevs-and-Snacks...
