Elysian Park Dérive
where: meet at the grassy area in front of Grace E Simons Lodge | map
. . .
Elysian Park, Friday, November 19, 12-3pm
Dérives playfully journey through time and space without points A or B. Drifting through the park, we will develop responsiveness in our bodies, acute attention to our senses, relationships with each other, mini-compositions and performances. Our practices draw from dance improvisation scores, somatic techniques, and Situationist shenanigans. Come along!
Adam and Lailye began sharing dérives in the winter of 2008. It deeply changed the way they saw and felt their surroundings in LA. The research is still in progress—always unfolding.
Lailye Weidman seeks out dialogue with ideas, places, and physical forces through dance and other art forms. Her work is currently based in the urban galaxy of Los Angeles. Dancing with the city: she is also a pedestrian, a biker, and an observer of unintentional street corner compositions. Her work has been shown at the Fowler Museum, Anatomy Riot, Pieter PASD, UCLA’s Department of World Arts and Cultures, and other venues in San Francisco, Boston, and New York. As an artist-in-residence during the 2009 SEEDS Festival (Somatic Experiments in Earth, Dance, and Science), she investigated ways to get lost and reorient alone in the woods. In 2009, she received a UCIRA grant for her senior thesis “Intersection Project: Dancers Map L.A.” She has taught workshops at Dancebank, Otis College of Art and design, and Earthdance.
