Dream-In Information for Campers
download the Camper Packet PDF !
Hello! Thank you so much for joining us for the Dream-In at the Hammer Museum on May 1st thru 2nd. Below you will find some of the basic information you should know before arriving on the 1st, including what you should bring, what to expect schedulewise, and so forth.
The Dream-In is completely sold out and there is a huge waiting list, so if you have friends who are asking about whether they can get in, you'll have to inform them that there is unfortunately no room left.
To those who registered for a campsite at the Dream-In - it's very important that you please forward this information as soon as possible to your camping mate so that everyone is on the same page, and there are no surprises, especially regarding what to bring, the lock-in factor, etc.
The following information can also be found at:

Basics
- All campers must be 18 or over.
- Participants should plan to attend the entire Dream-In -
from 7pm on Saturday May 1st until 9am on Sunday May 2nd. No late entry or early departure is permitted.
- Check-In for registered campers begins Saturday May 1st, at 7pm.
- Campsite set-up is 7-7:45pm, workshops begin promptly at 8pm.
Packing up is Sunday May 2nd, 7-9am.
- The event will go on, come rain or come shine.
- Campers will need to wear their special Dream-In wristband (received during Check-In) for the duration of the event. In exchange for your overnight fortitude and Sunday morning dream-recollections, Dream-In campers still wearing their admission wristband will receive complimentary admission to the Hammer Museum for Sunday May 2nd, which reopens to the public at 11am.
Check-In & Camping
- Check-In and campsite setup will run from 7-7:45pm on Saturday May 1st.
- Check-In happens in the Lobby. At Check-In you'll be assigned a campsite and asked to sign a release form. Please be aware that there will be photography and videography documenting this event.
- Camping will occur in designated areas throughout the Hammer Courtyard, and are randomly assigned during the registration process. We ask that you please camp only within these demarcated areas in order to keep emergency exit pathways clear.
- The first workshops begin at 8pm sharp. Last-minute visits to your car will be permitted up to 10pm, after which all campers will be "locked-in." No in's or out's allowed after 10pm.
- Please enter the parking garage under the museum from Westwood Blvd and park on level 4 or 5 only. You will pay $3 cash for parking upon entry.
- Campers will need to pack up and exit the museum by 9am on Sunday morning so that the museum can be cleaned before re-opening to the public at 11am. Campers who wish to visit the museum on Sunday are encouraged to find breakfast in the Westwood neighborhood and come back at 11am. You will be able to get to your car in the structure before that time, but will not be able to enter the museum until it officially re-opens.
- On Sunday morning, please note that if you drive out of the parking structure at any point and then wish to come back to the museum later in the day, you will have to pay again for parking.
Camper Needs: Things to Bring

- Sleeping bags, blankets, pillows, air mattresses, etc. Unfortunately tents are NOT allowed.
- Those sensitive to sound and light may want to bring ear-plugs and sleeping masks.

- Hot water will be available - please bring your favorite tea and a mug to drink it from.
- Toiletries - bathrooms are available in the Courtyard. There are no shower facilities available.
- Cameras are allowed (no flash, sounds disabled please), except during workshops.

Things NOT to bring, or to beware of:
- Please, no alcohol.
- Smoking is permitted in designated areas only.
- No electric teapots - hot water will be provided.
- Sorry - no tents, generators, amplified music, fire, or pets allowed.
Food and Drink
- No food or drink will be served during the Dream-In. Please pack as you would for a camping expedition - it is suggested you eat dinner beforehand, and bring snacks to help you make it through the evening. Unfortunately no fires or grilling is permitted.
- Cold/Hot water coolers will be placed in the Courtyard. Sorry, no alcoholic beverages are permitted.
- Food and drinks are only allowed in the Courtyard. Only bottled water is permitted in the workshop areas.
- Doors will reopen as early as 7am on Sunday for those who need to leave or who want to wander the neighborhood to get breakfast. (Information about Westwood area dining will be included in your Check-In packet).
Workshops
- Six workshops will be offered between 8-10pm - Dream-In participants can choose to attend two of these, and will sign up for them during Check-In. Space in workshops is limited, and will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. The workshops will be held in the Lobby, in Gallery 6 on the Courtyard level, and in the Hammer Courtyard (exact location TBD). Please see your Check-In packet and look for the posted signs to locate your workshops.
- Because of the meditative nature of many of the workshops, we ask that participants arrive on time for the ones they've signed up for, and then stay for their full duration. Each workshop will each last about 1 hour, with a short break in-between.
Bedtime and Night-Owls
- Bedtime officially begins at midnight. Bedtime stories will commence in the Courtyard around 11:45pm, and will continue into the night as campers prepare for sleep. During this time, Amanda Yates and Joshua Beckman will be visiting small groups of campers to facilitate their varied storytelling strategies. Quiet in the Courtyard is appreciated at this point so that campers can hear the bedtime stories, and so that the tired can sleep.
- For the sake of insomniacs and night-owls, the Hammer Lobby will be open throughout the night for reading, conversation and day-dreaming. Unfortunately no food or drink is permitted in the Lobby.
Dream Recollection Collection
We would like to collect your Dream-In dreams! If you'd care to share, please use the Dream Pads provided during Check-In to document any dreams you encounter between May 1st & 2nd during the workshops, music, bedtime stories, sleeping, waking, daydreaming, etc. Dream documentation can come in any combination of writing or drawings, and will be used throughout the next day by Gawdafful Theater as inspiration for dream reenactments throughout the museum. Please donate your Dream Pads at the Lobby reception desk before leaving in the morning if you'd like to share them – (they will not be returned) – Dream Pads will eventually be scanned and archived online at http://plus1plus1plus.org/dream-in. The Hammer Museum may also use this material on their website. Add your name to your packet if you'd like credit, otherwise your contribution will remain anonymous.
Miscellany
- Please report or recover any lost & found items at the reception desk in the Lobby.
- On May 1st there is a simultaneous but unrelated UCLA Film Archive screening going on in the Billy Wilder Theater - please watch the signs to make sure you're not going to the wrong event!
- If you have any questions while camping, look for a Hammer volunteer with a pink badge and they will be happy to help!
