General Policies

Please note that these pages are all subject to future revision, so please check back regularly for updates or changes in policy.

Current Clientele - Please note that for the time being I am only working on friends, acquaintances, friends-of-friends, and former chair massage clients for private massage sessions. However, if you've received my services before and would like to recommend my work to a friend, friends-of-a-friend, or acquaintance, by all means please do so. In addition, newcomers are more than welcome to visit me during my public chair massage hours around town.

Scheduling and Cancellation Policy - Most scheduling takes place anywhere from several days to several weeks beforehand. Of course, every now and again we have to cancel or reschedule, however, please note that 1) it is hard to re-fill spots once they've been filled, especially on very short notice, and 2) I spend a good bit of time and energy juggling folks' schedules to make your appointment work. The best we can do is to try and make sure at the outset that the date and time we're setting up is a pretty-for-sure thing, and to try as hard as possible to save any cancellations for the real-deal emergencies. And if you do have to cancel, please let me know ASAP so that I can open that spot to someone else if at all possible. Your help in this area is most greatly appreciated!

No Diagnosis Policy - Note that since I am not a doctor, it is not appropriate for me to diagnose any medical conditions. Of course we can talk about and guess at things here and there, but to be honest, making such connections is really so much more complicated and mysterious than we might think, and is beyond my scope of practice. Much of today's tension, habits or injuries are related to injuries from long ago, and/or to events that we don't even remember, and/or to daily habits of which we're unaware - simply trying to connect the few dots of information we're privy to can be presumptuous, and in some cases [physically or psychologically] dangerous. Similarly, it is unnecessary and dangerous to judge the areas of tension that we discover along the way - that knot on your back is not bad, and you are not bad for having one - tension is human - we all have patterns of tension across our person, and my job is to simply "dialogue" with your body with a combination of slow, pleasant strokes that will hopefully make you feel loose and good by the end (meanwhile stimulating circulation, etc), which might simultaneously reintroduce you to that fabulous vessel you've got attached below your head...

Past Injury Disclosure - It's very important to let me know beforehand (usually right before you get on the table) what concerns you have about past or recent injuries. It is up to the client to disclose this information in order to prevent further injury or aggravation.

Privacy Pact - I encourage as much openness between the client and myself as is comfortable, especially in order to prevent miscommunication or injury, and in exchange I offer complete confidentiality. Any and all information disclosed during the session related to medical or personal history, or based on observations I make during the session (ranging from the patterns of tension I notice to the witnessing of any emotional responses) are completely and totally between you and me, totally confidential.

Rates & Barter - Pricing of services is done on a case-by-case basis, with options for sliding scale rates and occasional barter of services for those who cannot immediately afford the market value of these services. If you fall into this category, don't count yourself out! I highly encourage a creative approach to figuring out an appropriate barter. I am open to a variety of forms of exchange, and would prefer to figure out a way for the session to happen rather than to not-happen. However, be aware that I am in fact a certified, professional massage therapist, and have expended a good bit of cash and time for training, so any and all contributions (of any kind) are not only greatly appreciated, but also very necessary, and go straight back into my practice.

No Funny Business Policy - What I do is sensual, not sexual, and I take this very seriously - sexual advances or innuendo of any kind will not be tolerated, and will lead to the immediate termination of the session.
