The Confessions of Guru Rugu:
The Story of St. Dominique of Paris
Chapbook, 24 pages, Full Color cover
Dimensions: 6.25" x 8.5" x 0.125"

Guru Rugu’s Tractatus no. 12/3b
November 2013, Los Angeles/Paris.
Published collaboratively by Guru Rugu’s Tractatus & Insert Blanc Press
The Confessions of Guru Rugu: The Story of St. Dominique of Paris illustrates a glorious vision I had of St. Dominique while a visitor in Paris, and my subsequent first attempt to proselytize on her behalf, in May of 2013. Several witnesses remarked afterwards that the St. Dominique depicted on the prayer card I found shared an uncanny resemblance to the Parisian artist, Dominique Gilliot; others reported that my vision also bore similarities to actions that this Gilliot had performed while visiting Adam Overton's apartment just 4-and-a-half months earlier; and still others insisted that much of the text of my confession seemed remarkably similar to the lyrics of the band, Gachette of the Mastiff, a band fronted by this same Dominique. While I respect the visions and the passion of those who claim so fervently to intuit such resemblance, I can say only that my vision and subsequent confession are and were completely true, and though imperfect, I worked to reperform as many glorious details as revealed to me by St. Dominique of Paris, and people ultimately have to accept what I’m telling them or not accept what I’m telling them. —Guru Rugu
Listen to our February 2014 broadcast with special guest Holyman, Patrick Foley!!
Friends, this past Sunday Feb 2nd on Guru Rugu's Experimental Meditation Hour on KCHUNG radio, we spoke with and listened to the therapeutic music of our esteemed guest, Holyman, Patrick Foley!
"Patrick Foley’s Holyman project began as a breathing exercise to avoid hand tension while playing the guitar. practicing simple, repetitive and — most importantly — very long pieces, Patrick reached new levels of stamina and focus and it became clear that this music should be performed. informed more by ambient electronic than by classical or jazz guitar, at a club or a traditional music venue the audience might feel compelled too pay too much attention to these meditative pieces. only when blending into the background, allowing listeners to absorb it subconsciously, can the music’s true texture and emotions be felt."
Cosmic year-end gossip from our stellar GMZ panel on Guru Rugu's Experimental Mediation Hour for December 2013!

Plus Guru Rugu led a powerful experimental meditation focusing on the healing power Shout-Outs!

Jay Erker’s Invitation to Collaborate: Art Work was an online project running from June 10 to August 9, 2013 and began from a simple premise: her full-time job took away much of the time that she would rather spend thinking, experiencing, making, and engaging with art and the art community in Los Angeles. Not only that, she was thinking about how the current economy has influenced our art making. Having and sustaining a career in art is near impossible. But we make art anyway, we participate in lectures, attend art shows and performances, we volunteer our time and support our friends. We do this not necessarily because we aspire to make a living with our art but because we enjoy it. It is an imperative.
Jay Erker invited her friends and friends of friends on facebook to participate in a collaboration with her by sending instructions for performances, actions, artworks, etc., for her to perform/execute at work. Jay Erker’s work displayed at General Projects comprises a selection of collaborations she completed with more than 60 artists over a two month period. Invitation to Collaborate: Art Work shows that it is possible for us to create opportunities for ourselves, without having to wait for institutions or galleries to tap us on the shoulder and validate what we do.
We can do it for ourselves.
Guru Rugu's Tractatus is a semi-monthly inspir[r]ational publication series which aims to inspire and motivate seekers and heathens alike via glorious tracts, posters, prayer cards, beach towels, hippy shit and more. Guru Rugu’s Tractatus will be distributed and on display during an exhibition at Insert Press!
Opening Night Event: Convert Your Shirt! (or Tote!)
Dear dears—please join us in a baptism of ink by bringing your boring, old, misguided, naïve, not-naïve-enough, worn out, un- or under-used t-shirts and/or tote-bags and CONVERT them! With the aid of Guru Rugu’s specially trademarked baptismal design, and the screen-shamanic assistance of Maggie Lomeli of Gray Area Print, you can immediately convert these vessels via a fresh, new, inspir[r]ational message from yours truly, printed on-site over the tote or shirt’s original wicked logo, or turned inside-out! In mere seconds, you’ll become a humble Dabblerist apologist who’s unafraid to proclaim your confusion while dériving at Whole Foods, MOCA, the Oinkster, or any other totebag- or t-shirt-providing den-of-sin! Plus, you’ll become a living, walking billboard extension of Guru Rugu’s Tractatus, an inspirational publication series! Oh, and we’ve got two designs to choose from, including one especially for adjunct instructors in need!
. . .
Jay Erker co-directs Weekend, an artist-run space, and is a Los Angeles based multimedia artist whose recent work focuses on collaborative actions that draw awareness to the possibilities and potentialities inherent in the ordinary workaday, everyday. Underlining each action is the suggestion of our ability to act autonomously within the imposed confines of social, economic, and political structures. This approach can be seen in her recently completed Facebook project, “Invitation to Collaborate: Art Work”, where she collaborated with over 60 friends and guests to complete artworks and performances while at work, all documented on the Facebook event page. She has exhibited and performed at various non-commercial spaces in Los Angeles, San Francisco, St. Louis, New York.

Reception: Wednesday, September 25th, 6–9pm
Cypress, CA, September 2013 – Cypress College Art Gallery is pleased to announce Within, an exhibition and program of events that explore the perceiving self, embodiment, and the corporeal production of knowledge, with artworks by Heather Cassils; Ashley Hunt and Taisha Paggett; Mariah Garnett, Guillermo Gómez-Peña and Roberto Sifuentes, Guru Rugu, and Julie Tolentino, curated by Chloë Flores.
Body-based perspectives and processes circulate widely in contemporary aesthetic fields that consider the body as a medium, subject and object. However, discourse on the subject is nominal within the field of art. This lack of discourse raises questions about the perceived value of mind/body awareness in the production and reception of artists work, and complicates efforts to position corporeal perception and response within an art context. Within contributes to and comments on these rare, but developing discourses by examining the ways notions of embodiment form and inform artistic production. This exhibition presents the following works for consideration: Mexercize (2013) by Garnett, Gómez-Peña and Sifuentes, a performance video installation and conceptual exercise program; Par Course C: Formation, Drill, Maneuver (2013) by Hunt and Paggett, a group of public participatory sculptures that guide one through “movement-thought exercises;” Guru Rugu’s Greatest Hits (2013), a room for listening and contemplation with audio mediations led by Rugu; On Our Backs: After Raised by Wolves (2013) by Tolentino, an interactive installation based on moving bodies and host to one-to-one open studio explorations; and Becoming an Image (2012) by Cassils, a collection of photographs and audio installation from a growing body of work intersecting sculpture and performance. Each project shows the significance of kinesthetic, somatic, and haptic awareness in the exchange of artistic ideas, and reveals a variety of relationships that stem from experiences of transference and embodiment.
Within will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue featuring artist pages and essays by Chloë Flores, Melinda Guillen, and Megan Hoetger.

where: Fort Gondo Compound for the Arts, 3151 Cherokee Street, Saint Louis, MO
facilitated by: Guru Rugu
Please join Guru Rugu and the experimental meditation center of los angeles in the great city of St. Louis for an evening of experimental meditation and inspiration.
the experimental meditation center of los angeles (emcla) is a frame[work], a magic circle, a safe space, a temporary autonomous zone, a performance space for the facilitation of artist-led meditations. Activities at emcla differ from session to session, each featuring new artist-facilitators and practices. They favor the playful, the experimental, and the temporary over the fanatical, dogmatic, and proselytic, gentleness over violence or aggressiveness, and seek to reinforce the magical and connective undertakings we artists are already engaging with on a daily basis. the experimental meditation center of los angeles has no center, though these days it often convenes at the home of Adam Overton.

To finish up Guru Rugu’s summer residency at Cannonball, he will team up for one final event with local artist and hospitality-expert, Jacqueline Falcone, to facilitate a BED-IN & BREAKFAST!
Hosted in Guru Rugu’s bed at the experimental meditation center of los angeles (currently centered at Cannonball), and broadcast live on Guru Rugu’s YouTube channel, the 5-hour and 59-minute event will feature cozy, therapeutic performances, panel discussions, music, and more from a variety of local Miami artists. Names of participants to be announced soon.
** A Letter from the Presenters **
In 2013, Guru Rugu and I were so naïve to think that doing the BED-IN & BREAKFAST would help change the world. Well, it could. But at the time, we didn't know.
It was good that we filmed it, though, and broadcast it live on YouTube. It will be a very long and powerful film someday. What we say then could have been said long ago, or even now.
In fact, there are things that we and our many Miami artist-friends will say in the film, which may give some encouragement and inspiration to the artists and activists of today. Good luck to us all. And bon appétit.
Let's remember WAR AND DINNER AND SUMMER AND RESIDENCIES IS OVER if we want it. It's up to us, and nobody else. Guru Rugu would have wanted to say that.
Love, Jacqueline & Guru Rugu

!! Guru Rugu and the experimental meditation center of los angeles present an Experimental Meditation Open Mic!
Tues, July 30, 2013, 7-9pm
Cannonball, 1035 N Miami Ave, Suite 301, Miami, FL 33136
Free and Open to the Public
Space is limited; please RSVP by July 29th to email@example.com
Please join us at Cannonball for An Experimental Meditation Open Mic, hosted by Guru Rugu and the experimental meditation center of los angeles. Attendees will have the opportunity to facilitate brief, fantastic new modes of psychonautical experimentation, with Guru Rugu refereeing.
If you’d like to reserve an Open Mic spot in advance, please include in your RSVP a rough idea for a 5-10 minute experimental meditation that you’d like to lead in the emcla mission at Cannonball (it must remain physically in the space!). It is not mandatory to lead an experimental meditation in order to attend – feel free to just come along and participate.
An experimental meditation can be almost anything — for our purposes it should be gentle (no one gets hurt) and make no mess — it might resemble traditional meditation in some way, but attendees are encouraged to expand and challenge their notion of what a guided meditation, movement meditation, guided visualization, group prayer, sermon, spiritually-inspired rant, etc. can look, read, sound, and feel like! Breathing through our armpits? Great. Channeling dolphin wisdom to predict lottery numbers? Fantastic. The sky is no longer the limit.
NOTE: Experimental meditations must remain within the confines of the temporary headquarters of the experimental meditation center of los angeles at Cannonball. The space is small and the floors are slippery, even with shoes on, so fast movement and certain positions might be difficult, or even dangerous. If you’d like to see the space beforehand, please let us know.

Guru Rugu’s Temporary Nudist Autonomous Zone (TNAZ) at Haulover Beach!
in coordination with the South Florida Free Beaches Guinness World Record™ Skinny Dip attempt! Sun, 14 July 2013, 12pm-2:30pm POSTPONED til Sun, 14 July 2013, 12pm-2:30pm Haulover Park Naturist Beach, Miami-Dade County, FL at the designated clothing-optional beach area!!
Guru Rugu invites you to join him and many other naturists from the Miami-Dade area on Sunday, July 14th July 21st, as South Florida Free Beaches (SFFB) attempts to set a new world record for the most skinny dippers at a single beach. The current official record, set by South Wales in 2011, is 413 skinny dippers.
Guru Rugu will be facilitating a Temporary Nudist Autonomous Zone (TNAZ), a disorganized artistic nudist vortex that might feature experimental meditations, sunscreen sigils, KCHUNG Radio interviews, and more, alongside the larger skinny dip. He invites other artists to join in and create their own Temporary Nudist Autonomous Zones!
The skinny dip record breaking attempt will take place at 2 PM – however, official participants must be nude & registered to count. Registration for that begins at 10am. Guru Rugu and friends will likely be at the beach sometime between 12pm and 2:30pm.
** Fear not: apparently there will be designated photography and no photography areas marked at the SFFB event. **
BEWARE: The Facebook map is correct, but Google maps currently shows the incorrect location – the clothing-optional area of Haulover Beach is in the North-East area of the park (with a parking lot directly across the street). Please use the map on the SFFB website for more precise driving and parking directions: http://www.sffb.com/haulover.html

This is the second version of the project, which began in Los Angeles in January 2013.
In May 2013, L.A. will go to Paris, with Machine Project bringing six Los Angeles artists to Parisian homes. A closing party on the last night will bring all of the participating artists and hosts, both from Los Angeles and Paris, together.
Nate Page will arrive at Charles de Gaulle airport on May 1,2013.
The other artists will follow him, arriving on May 13, 2013.
An experiment in curation, context-trading, and the possibilities of public art, Los Angeles Chez Vous ! / Paris at Your Home ! is an unprecedented re-imagining of the home as both a site of cultural production and a locus for public exchange. Domestically and internationally scaled, the project creates a new kind of partnership with its artists and public, through a distinctly 21st-century model of cultural institutional networks.

Along the way he will lead a handful of sermons, including The Story of Saint Portugal Telecom at the town pillory; some RiverMouth Sanctification using the sounds of the rivers in Macieira, in combination with some local wisdom; and his newest sermon, Please Accept My Apology—a discussion of spiritual and religious life among artists in Los Angeles—to be delivered at the main church in Sul, with emphasis provided by the Salva Almas gumball machine. Guru Rugu is very thankful for this opportunity, and for the assistance today from Binaural interns Nely Ferreira and Daniela Lopes, as well as Binaural hostess Manuela Barile.

featuring a follow up appearance by Guru Rugu.
Admission is $5, please RSVP at the following link:
Let’s Start With The Obvious is a one-act play for two performers, with Johanna Reed starring as “A Hero” and Marcus Kuiland-Nazario as “Her Arch-nemesis.” Their lines are a transcription and impersonation two YouTube compilations of the greatest movie insults and threats of all time. At the origin of the first dramatic conflict ever told, there was a protagonist and an antagonist: they tried to communicate; they miscommunicated.
Since this 20 minute play quickly escalates into a frenzy of rage and unbridled epithets, Guru Rugu will be on hand afterward to lead everyone in an calming meditation session. Guru Rugu is a celebrated best-selling self-published self-helper from Los Angeles who has changed the lives of millions with his simple but effective experimental meditations. He has worked with many other illustrious experimental healers, artists, and writers, including Veranda Moot and Matador Oven.
